Mr Shawn Ong
With over 14 years of experience and a degree in Classical Music Performance, Shawn specializes in teaching young children, adults, and seniors, through personalised 1-to-1 classes that focus on real understanding rather than rote memorization.
About Shawn
Shawn began his piano journey at the age of 5 and discovered his passion for music performance in his teens after being inspired by Maksim Mrvica’s iconic Flight of the Bumblebee. Determined to pursue his dream of becoming a concert pianist, he went on to earn both his Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Music Performance from LASALLE College of the Arts, majoring in piano.
โ
During his studies, Shawn trained under esteemed mentors such as Dr. John Sharpley, Mr. Frank DeMeglio, and Mr. Benjamin Loh, who helped shape his technical mastery and musical expression.
โ
With over 14 years of teaching experience and more than 500 students mentored, Shawn has built a strong reputation for nurturing confident, well-rounded pianists. His students have achieved a 100% ABRSM exam pass rate, with many attaining merits and distinctions.
โ
Dedicated to inspiring growth and real musical understanding, Shawn regularly organises student concerts and supports outstanding performers in international and regional competitions — helping each student develop their artistry and love for music.

Teaching Philosophy
Shawn aims to inspire a lifelong love and appreciation for Classical Music in his students. He uses purposeful teaching methods tailored to each student’s needs, believing that every practice session should have intention and focus. His goal is to help students practice smarter, not just longer, so their progress is both efficient and meaningful.
โ
Shawn’s teaching extends beyond the piano itself. He often reminds students, “If you can sing, you can play,” encouraging a holistic, visual-mental approach to learning. This mindset allows students to explore, have fun, and step beyond traditional practice routines — all while making their practice more effective.
